On this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends, Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and their producers Joelle and Dan laugh about the Scrubs episode “His Story II.” Donald believes his narration style was inspired by old Corn Pops commercials, Zach doesn’t understand why there’s suddenly a mailbox in the middle of the parking lot, and they like the thought that Lonnie, the pizza delivery guy from the pilot episode, was working his way through medical school and now he’s J.D.’s intern. Zach also has very strong feelings about Elliott’s behavior, and they spend some time thinking about the logistics of having sex with your ex and then leaving immediately with your current boyfriend. Then Courtney and Kisha call in from Phoenix to ask them what reality shows they’d be in, talk about Kisha’s work with autistic children, and get advice on starting their own podcast together.
Zach had just sold his movie Garden State at Sundance before shooting this episode, he remembers; Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, “who was always worried about my head getting too big, decided that the first scene I had to shoot was me in full clown makeup getting sprayed with a seltzer bottle,” he laughs. He wasn’t the only one Bill messed with; Judy Reyes was always asking for more funny stuff to do, they remember, so it’s “Machiavelli-like” that in this episode, Carla finally gets a joke “and the joke is that she isn’t funny.” Zach has to concede that Donald was right about J.D. not liking “a juicy booty,” since that is made perfectly clear in this episode even though “it doesn’t make sense.”
When Courtney and Kisha ask about what reality shows they’d do, Zach exclaims that Donald could win Dancing With the Stars. Donald demurs, saying that there’s “no need” for another Black man who’s been on sitcoms to do that show after Alfonso Ribeiro: “He shut it down for us all.” But he loves the idea of a Scrubs cast doing Family Feud against the cast of The Office for charity. Zach thinks it would be fun to do Amazing Race but he and Donald would get tripped up by the puzzles. Then they swap opinions about Bridgerton, The Boys, and Judge Dredd, yell at Donald for not watching Watchmen yet, and wonder how often women get mad about having sex: Hear the entire hilarious conversation on this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends.
