Law & Order: Criminal Justice System is back and breaking down the "threat the hides in plain sight" — terrorism.
The podcast dives into the "landmark cases" that helped shape the way "dangerous" criminals are prosecuted in America. According to the podcast description, the series' second season will cover the terrorism in the U.S. and the way the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Joint Terrorism Task Force have evolved to deal with the threats, "from the rise of extremist political groups in the 60s to domestic lone wolves in the modern day."
The second episode of season two, released alongside the first on August 21, host Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi explains exactly why the horrific 1975 bombing at LaGuardia Airport, which left 11 people dead and dozens more injured, was a "wake up call" and "exposed the need for change" that led to the country's first Joint Terrorism Task Force.
It was the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil at the time and it still remains unsolved. The aftermath of the bombing left a chaotic scene, with the extensive damage done by the blast and the responders inadvertently compromising the crime scene as they attend to the victims as well as the onlookers gathering outside. Even when investigators analyzed bomb fragments, the "forensic evidence stopped short of pointing to a suspect."
As one older news segment shared on the podcast stated, "A retired police commander who worked on the case from the beginning called the LaGuardia bombing the most frustrating case of his career because, as he put it, there are 11 open graves out there crying for an answer."
