#LIFE: Tidying Tasks Professional Organizers Do Every Single Day!

Spring cleaning and de-cluttering is great and all but after months of our primary residence being our office, gym, and pandemic bunker, you’re not alone if things have gotten a bit cluttered. But here’s the thing about cleaning. You don’t need to do it all in one fell swoop. In fact, professional organizers prefer to chip away at it by tidying a little bit every day.

Here is what they recommend:

Make the bed. Making your bed takes up 30 seconds of your morning and it has the power to change your whole room.

Sarah Giller Nelson, the founder of Less Is More Organizing says “your bed is the dominant feature in the bedroom so if it is made, then the entire space looks calmer.” Not to mention it’s a nice touch when you’ve got company in there.

Deal with the mail. Pro organizer Lisa Zaslow says the key to junk mail is to not let it pile up.“When I bring in the mail, I deal with it right away: recycle junk, file statements, put to-dos into my follow-up system, [and] leave other non-urgent mail in a tray with a cheery paperweight that says ‘Cheers’ to be dealt with when I have time.”

Organize groceries. As fun as finding a condiment in your fridge years, past expiration is… maybe it’s better to make organizing groceries a daily ritual. For organizing consultant Pooja Naik this means having a “grocery inventory list on [their] fridge.” Meanwhile, pro organizer Nicole Arroyo says she makes it a thing once a day to clean and organize her refrigerator.

Wipe down the shower after use. Tired of kicking off every morning by stepping into a grimy shower? Interior designer Jeffrey Phillip wipes down his shower after every wash “to prevent mildew and grout discoloration.” Plus, keeping your squeegee in your tub is a nice conversation piece.
